BLACK VELVET CANDLES began in the fall of 2017 while I pursued my nursing degree. Candle making provided a sanctuary for my mental clarity as I navigated nursing school. I received a handmade candle as a gift from a local farmer’s market and was immediately amazed at its beauty and fragrance, unlike any other candles I had purchased before. Intrigued, I wanted to delve deeper into the art of candle making and understand why this particular candle was so much more fragrant than store-bought ones. As time passed, I immersed myself in studying every aspect of candle making. I quickly fell in love with the process. After numerous attempts, in the spring of 2018, I finally perfected the art of candle making. I vividly remember the way the candle filled the room, I was so excited! Encouraged by the positive feedback from colleagues, friends, and family, my husband and I made the decision to embark on the journey of entrepreneurship. Thus, in 2021, Black Velvet Candles was born. What's the significance of the name Black Velvet? During my school days, I carried a small black velvet bag, symbolizing all my hard work and dedication. To me, it serves as a constant reminder that with perseverance, anything is possible.
